About

In the beginning...

Born and raised in Kentucky, Christian fine artist Emily Gerlach has been formally studying art since 2007, where her humble beginning lead her to the international baccalaureate program for art. The program focused on medium exploration and historical or cultural significance with every piece, and that is still her focus today as she works from home, a mother first and an artist second. She received scholarships from twelve colleges for her portfolio and pursued the industrial design program at Milwaukee Institute of art and Design only to run out of financing and passion upon the realization that her true passion was sculpture which she studied as a minor. Art glass, metal forging, pottery, drawing barely paint the picture of her fine art experience. The time-consuming obligations of motherhood lead her to create the linear series “Butterfly Bouquet” which illustrates the world and mainly flowers as though made up of butterflies. “It all started with a doodle, I received many compliments on it in my sketchbook.” Developing the drawings and pushing the ink to abstract limits has created the framework for a series with the hopes of licensing. Its simplicity paired with intricacies destined for more. This drawing series is only the beginning of her artistic journey, with sculpture and ceramics on the horizon. You could say she wears many hats in the art world.

She creates illustrated stories for her children, quilts and paints commissioned art work, and pursues printmaking in her spare time. When not creating you can find her fishing camping and gaming with her family of a loving husband and two beautiful children.
